High temperature superconducting tapes
These tapes are composed of a clever superposition of films where REBCO, RE=Rare-Earth, is the superconducting layer. When cooled down at 4 K, they can carry more than 6 kA without losses.
Current Flow Diverter Concept
The Current Flow Diverter (CFD) concept (Patent US9029296B2) is used to accelerate quench propagation. The benefits are a faster quench detection and a higher resilience to hot spots. The CFD concept was developed at Polytechnique Montreal in 2014.
